Two ways people find us

Most tax work happens too late to change the answer.

A return is a record of decisions you already made. By the time it is being prepared, the year is over and the arithmetic is fixed. Almost everything we do falls either side of that line — helping you decide well while it still counts, or standing between you and the IRS once something has gone wrong.

Before — while it still counts

Tax planning

Deciding in October what April will say. Entity choice, how you pay yourself, timing a sale, retirement contributions, whether an S election actually helps you or just adds a filing.

  • What you should be doing differently before 31 December
  • Estimated payments sized properly, so April holds no surprises
  • A second opinion on a return somebody else prepared
Planning is worth most to people whose income is uneven, growing, or comes from more than one place.
After — when something has gone wrong

Tax resolution

Letters, balances, years that never got filed, a levy on the way. As an Enrolled Agent, Yolanda can speak to the IRS on your behalf — you do not have to make that call yourself.

  • Unfiled returns, however many years back
  • Payment plans, offers in compromise, hardship status
  • Penalty abatement, audits, appeals, California FTB matters
The first conversation is about finding out what the IRS actually says — not about signing anything.
Not sure which one you need? Most people aren't. Ring and describe it in your own words — that is enough for us to tell you whether it is urgent, and what it will take.
In a client's words
“I was presented with a huge tax bill after it was prepared by my Certified Public Accountant… Yolanda took her time to go over my tax documents and forms line by line… she explained it in way that I can understand it… In addition, Yolanda explained to me what I needed to do to not owe taxes next year. I was filled with so much anxiety until I talked to Yolanda.

Tax preparation

The return itself — done properly, and explained.

Individual and business returns, federal and California. Most of what we do, and the place nearly every longer relationship starts.

What we prepare
IndividualsForm 1040 and California 540 — including self-employment, rental property, investments and capital gains, retirement income, and returns for more than one state
BusinessesS corporations (1120S), partnerships and LLCs (1065), corporations (1120), and the California filings that go with each
Trusts & estatesForm 1041, and the California return alongside it — whether the trust has run for years or has only just come to you to administer
Non-profitsForm 990 and its variants for exempt organizations, and California exemption filings where those are needed too
AlongsideBookkeeping and payroll where the return depends on them being right — a business return is only as good as the year behind it
How it works

You do not have to drive over with a shoebox

Every client gets a private, secure page of their own. Photograph a W-2 with your phone and it lands with us. You can see what we still need, sign what needs signing, and read anything we send — without a single trip to the office.

  • Documents in from anywhere, at any hour
  • A list of what is still outstanding, so nothing is chased twice
  • Electronic signatures, and the finished return kept where you can find it
If you would rather sit across a desk and hand us paper, that is entirely welcome too. The portal is an option, not a requirement.
What you get that you may not be used to

The conversation about next year

Filing a return tells you what already happened. The useful part is the twenty minutes afterwards, about what could be different.

  • Whether your estimated payments are the right size
  • Whether your entity is still the right one for what you now earn
  • What to change before 31 December, while it can still change the answer
Every return is prepared by an Enrolled Agent — so if a letter arrives about it later, the person who signed it can represent you.
Coming from another preparer? Bring the last two years. A second opinion on a return somebody else prepared is ordinary work here, and it is not awkward — it is how a good many of our clients arrived.
If you have been named a trustee or an executor and have no idea what that involves — that is the usual starting point, not a failing. Ring and describe the situation; the first thing to establish is simply which returns are due and by when.

About

Yolanda Leamon, EA

An Enrolled Agent is licensed directly by the IRS and is one of only three kinds of professional who can represent you before it. Unlike most credentials, it is specifically about tax — and specifically about being able to act for you when the IRS is asking the questions.

Yolanda has held that license since 2017, working from Madera with clients across the Central Valley. The person you speak to is the person who holds the license, reads your letter and makes the call to the IRS — so nothing has to be explained twice, and nothing gets lost in the handover.

“People are frightened of the IRS mostly because nobody has ever explained what it actually wants. Once you can see the shape of the thing, the fear usually turns into a plan.” Yolanda Leamon, EA

That is the whole of the job, whether it arrives as a letter or as a question asked in October. What a line on the return means, where the number came from, and what would have to change for it to say something different next year.

That conversation happens in English, Spanish or Portuguese. Tax is difficult enough in your first language; explained in your second, the detail that mattered is usually the one that got lost.

She is currently preparing for the United States Tax Court Practitioner examination — the route by which someone who is not an attorney may be admitted to represent taxpayers in the Tax Court itself. It is a demanding examination that few attempt, and for a practice built around resolution work it is the natural step beyond representing clients before the IRS.

Getting started

Tell us what happened. That is the whole of the first conversation.

You do not need your paperwork in order, and you do not need to know what any of it means. If a letter has arrived, have it to hand — the notice number in the corner tells us most of what we need.
